Is there simultaneous (real-time) translation?
Real-time translation for live speech
Simultaneous Translation is one of Linga Chat's four translation tools. Instead of translating typed messages, it works on the spoken word: as you talk, Linga Chat translates what is being said in real time. That means you and someone who speaks a different language can hold a live conversation without either of you being fluent in the other's tongue.
When it is useful
- Talking with a language partner whose language you are still learning, without stopping to type.
- Traveling and needing to understand and be understood on the spot.
- Practicing listening — you hear the other language and see what it means at the same time.
- Meeting new people in a live room or call where you do not yet share a common language.
Read it or hear it
As the conversation is translated in real time, you can read it on screen, and you can pair it with Translation Speaker to have the translation read out loud so the other person hears it in their language. That turns a one-sided lookup into a two-way conversation.
Part of a bigger toolkit
Simultaneous translation sits alongside instant message translation, translating text in photos, and reading translations out loud, so you are covered whether you are typing, speaking or looking at printed text. All of it spans the 27 languages Linga Chat supports and works on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and Windows. Linga Chat is free to start, so you can try real-time translation before deciding on any premium plan.
